Riva is surrounded by the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park in a scenic high-Alpine location in South Tyrol. The village is the starting point for many hikes and mountain tours in the Rieserferner Group. Rein's local mountain, the Hochgall (3,436 m), is the group's highest and most famous peak.

In the summer a hike to a mountain hut – the Kassler-Hütte, the Rieserferner-Hütte or the Knuttenalm – is mandatory.
